DEVLOG #1 — How It All Started

Finding pixel art

My journey started more than ten years ago, when I discovered a pixel‑art MMORPG whose style completely amazed me. I was young, had no idea how game development worked, and mostly created small 16×16 item icons just for fun. Sometimes I volunteered on small indie projects run by other people, but I never seriously thought about making my own game. That idea came much later.

Fantasy worlds before game worlds

Even as a kid, I was always writing fantasy stories in school notebooks. I loved worlds like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, but my imagination always drifted toward medieval settings with fictional races, cities, and entire universes. Creating worlds was natural to me long before I ever touched game development.

Why I cannot be a Member but rather a Leader

I never joined a permanent team because I like doing things on my own terms. Even in online games, I always ended up leading guilds instead of being just a member. I enjoy being responsible for the vision, the direction, and the final result. That’s why I’m leading this project, so I can finally present something that is fully mine.

Games that inspired me

Regosland is shaped by the games I grew up with and the ones I still admire today.

  • Shakes & Fidget — a unique mix of clicker mechanics, text‑based RPG humor, and comic‑style graphics.
  • Melvor Idle — a brilliant transformation of the Runescape experience into an idle RPG format.

I believe idle RPGs are rising because people have busy lives, MMOs are slowly fading, and players want games they can enjoy at their own pace. These titles showed me how powerful simple mechanics can be when combined with a strong world and identity.

Why Regosland exists

For years, I collected ideas, mechanics I wished other games had, features I always wanted to play but never found. Now, with more experience and a clearer vision, I can finally build the game I always wanted to play myself.

Regosland is my attempt to bring together everything I love: pixel art, fantasy world‑building, idle mechanics, and the freedom to explore a universe shaped by my own imagination.

This is where the journey begins.

In this devlog I showcase the early prototype of Regosland: Idle Roots — from character creation and customizable facial features, through the core professions inspired by Melvor Idle, each with unique minigames, all the way to turn‑based combat, the world map, early monsters, and our spacious inventory system with gear, rarities, and item descriptions. I also preview the journal, quests, lore, and the incremental progression that ties everything together. This is just the beginning, so if you want to see all features in action, watch the full video below.
